Have you ever been on the course and listen to seasoned golfers talk, you may think that they are from another planet. Golf like many sports has its own language or slang, let us explore some of those golf slangs so next time you sound like a seasoned pro.
Golf Terms
• Ace-a hole in one, not a card
• Attend the flag-to remove the flag stick as your opponent takes their shot
• Back nine-2nd half of a 18 hole game
• Back side-the last 8 holes of an 18 hole game
• Baffy-another name for a 4-wood
• Get down-to putt the ball into the hole
• Fairway-the playing area between the tee and the green
I could go on it really is a different language one that I still do not really understand fully.
Here are 5 of the most common Golf Terms every beginner should know:
1. Bogey-one over par for one played hole
2. Birdie-one under par for one played hole
3. Fore-to let others know to get out of the path of your shot
4. Handicap-giving golfers of different skill levels the ability compete on a fair field
5. Par-number of shots a beginner or a low handicap golfer should take to finish the hole
That should be enough to get you started in knowing what people on the golf course are saying. Like anything, more time golfing better you will get at talking the golf talk.
