In the Eastern Townships of Quebec (Canada), the interpretation service for deaf people in the Eastern Townships (SIPs), in partnership with the health and social services in the Eastern Townships (ASSS) Youth Forum and the Eastern Townships (FJE), has introduced new services for the deaf community Townships.
The organization, in existence since 1987, aims to promote the full participation of deaf people in society and the management of all aspects of their lives. Its uniqueness? A team of employees all deaf college graduates.
The deaf community in the Eastern Townships will be able to benefit from the services of consultants who are deaf in special education and social communications and appropriate employment and educational and vocational information. The city of Sherbrooke confirms its commitment to developing the social integration of people with hearing disabilities. Tinnitus Miracle A step had been taken in this direction since 2009, employees of the city have deaf interpreter via a webcam for staff meetings, or union with the bosses.
The recruitment of deaf professionals in a social enterprise will include deaf young people to stay in their area. Indeed, specialized in hearing disability are more developed in major cities such as Quebec and Montreal, forcing young people with hearing loss into exile to find a job. This initiative will encourage deaf students to pursue higher education.
Statistics show that the unemployment rate in this population is five times higher than that observed in the general population. The rate of illiteracy is also alarming: while in Canada, 15% of people aged 15 to 65 have a very limited reading ability, this percentage reached 65% in the deaf community according to the Association of the Deaf of Canada.
