When I first heard of spray tans, I couldn’t believe everyone didn’t do it. I got so into it that eventually I opened up my own spray tan salon. I loved it! Whenever I needed a refresher on my tan I would just jump right into my spray booth and let it douse me in a beautiful tan. Everything was perfect until my perfect spray tan gave me rashes like I have never experienced in my life. At first I thought they were from something I ate or the new soap I bought. But when they continued to plague me, I had to concede that it must be the spray on tan. I felt betrayed by a good friend. I started to do some in depth research and what I found was very disturbing. It turns out that the FDA never approved dihydroxyacetone in the use of sprays. Others have experienced rashes, lung problems, and even birth defects in their babies. I’ve stopped spray tanning and shut down my business. I’m just glad the worst that happened to me was a persistent rash.
